I often get asked if diffusing lavender oil is safe. Diffusing lavender oil into the air is one of the most preferred methods because it dispensers particles of the essential oil into the atmosphere, allowing easy and quick inhalation. This helps to combat stress, promote sleep, promote focus, and helps your room to smell nice.
How to find the best lavender essential oil
There are so many lavender oil benefits that people often ask me where I buy my essential oils. I get mine from Amazon. Here are the links to some of my favorites:

Diffusing lavender oil: Safety guidelines
- Fill your oil diffuser with room temperature tap water to the fill line.
- Add 3 to 10 drops of lavender oil into the water.
- Put the lid on the diffuser, and turn it on.
- Make sure you place your diffuser on a solid surface with a towel underneath if necessary.
- Some diffusers like this one have a timer that switches off after an hour of use. I prefer these as I can switch them on and leave them, knowing they will be safe.
- Diffuse for 30 minutes to an hour.

How to make essential oil from Lavender flowers.
Making lavender essential oil.
- Fill a glass container 3/4 full with dried lavender flowers.
- Pour a carrier oil of choice over the dried lavender flowers. For example Hemp Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Rosehip seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, or Argan Oil
- Place the jar in a warm sunny location and allow it to infuse for up to three weeks.
- Shake the jar occasionally throughout the three weeks.
- After three weeks, strain the Lavender through some muslin and save the oil.
How to use lavender oil around the home. Please note that these uses only apply to therapeutic-grade essential oils.
- Sleep
Many people want to know how to use lavender oil for sleep. The best way is to use a room spray, diffuser, or rub a few drops over your pillow to help improve your sleep quality.
- Sunburn
Mix a few drops of lavender oil with distilled water, then spritz onto sunburn for instant relief.
- Calming
Rub a few drops into the soles of the feet for a calming effect and to help reduce stress.
- Cuts
Dab Lavender oil on a cut to stop bleeding, kill bacteria and clean the wound.
- Deodorant
Rub a few drops of natural lavender oil over the armpit area to act as a deodorant.
- Flaky scalp.
Rub several drops of natural lavender oil into the hair and scalp to help get rid of a flaky scalp.
- Rash and itchy skin
Spread 2 or 3 drops of lavender oil onto the rash to help with the itching
- Nosebleeds.
Place a drop of the lavender oil on a handkerchief, tissue, or rag, then wrap it around an ice cube. Place the ice cube under the top lip just under the nose, and hold until the bleeding stops or as long as it is comfortable.
- Prickly heat irritation.
Put a few drops on minor heat irritation to get rid of the discomfort
- Travel sickness
To relieve the symptoms of travel sickness, put a drop of lavender oil behind the ears.
- Stings and bites.
Rub a drop of lavender oil on an insect bite or sting to reduce swelling and stop itching.
- Dry skin
Rub lavender oil onto dry skin for instant relief.
- Moths.
Adding a few drops of natural lavender oil onto a cotton ball and placing it in your wardrobe or drawers will repel moths and other insects.
- Hay fever.
Rub a few drops of natural lavender oil between your hands and breathe to open the airwaves.
- Scars
Massage lavender oil into the affected area to help to reduce the formation of scar tissue
- Laundry.
To make your laundry smell sweeter, put a few drops of lavender oil on a wet cloth and chuck it into your dryer with your laundry.
- High pollen count.
Diffuse some lavender oil to help alleviate the symptoms.
- Chapped lips
Dab a drop of lavender oil onto sunburned or chapped lips for instant relief.
- Mouth sores.
Put a drop of Lavender on a mouth sore for instant relief.
- Anxiety.
Spritz or diffuse lavender oil into the room to help anxiety associated with ADHD and Autism.
Some other frequently asked questions about diffusing lavender oil
Most essential oils are toxic to cats. It is worse if the essential oils are neat and undiluted. They can be harmful to cats if eaten.
Living with lavender oil could cause severe organ damage, liver failure, seizures, and even death to your cat.
Inhaling essential oils from diffusers can be dangerous to cats, especially if your cat has medical conditions such as asthma.
When diffusing Lavender around dogs, it is always best to err on the side of caution.
When diffusing any essential oils around pets, particularly dogs, just as with cats, exposure to many essential oils, including Lavender, can cause organ damage and even death to some dogs.
There are many benefits to mixing Lavender and Eucalyptus Oil in a diffuser. They can help with colds and cases of flu, repel bugs, and help to calm you down if you are stressed. They are antibacterial and anti-viral.
One of the best lavender benefits is that it helps prevent allergic inflammation and the enlargement of mucus cells which helps with hayfever symptoms. It will also help with insect stings and bites.
Peppermint is a great source of essential oil to mix with Lavender as it has a fresh, uplifting aroma, a great option for headaches. Peppermint is one of my favorite essential oils to use in a lavender oil recipe.
It is thought that lavender oil may help treat pattern baldness, but more studies are needed to prove this claim.
Lavender essential oil blends well with bergamot and peppermint to make really uplifting scents and blend with lavender essential oils.
Using essential oils during pregnancy needs to be done with caution. However, as long as your pregnancy is going well and there are no complications, it is probably fine for you to use common Lavender during pregnancy but always consult your doctor beforehand.
Vanilla and Lavender are a sweet, simplistic blend and work well together.
Lavender and sweet orange make a fantastic combination. They are soothing and relaxing.
Diffusing Lavender around babies and infants under six months old is not safe. Some essential oils, such as Idaho Tansy, Hyssop, Sage, Clary Sage, Wintergreen, and Eucalyptus, can be particularly harmful to babies.
Many essential oils such as Teatree, Sweet Birch, Cinnamon, Citrus, Eucalyptus Oil, Peppermint Wintergreen, and Ylang Ylang are toxic to pets. They may be toxic whether they are applied topically to the skin, ingested, or introduced in diffusers. Using essential oils around pets must be undertaken with extreme caution.
Lavender oil may not be particularly bad for your skin. However, if you suffer from acne, rosacea, or other skin problems, I would advise avoiding anything with essential oils.
Not everyone is the same, and each individual will react differently to each oil.
If in any doubt, speak with your dermatologist. He should be able to give you good advice.
Almond, Hemp seed oil, Coconut oil, Avocado oil, Extra virgin olive oil, Rosehip seed oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Argan Oil are all great carrier oils for Lavender.
You can diffuse essential oils without using a diffuser by using a reed diffuser or by rubbing the essential oil in your palms and breathing in.
