How To Banish Dishwasher White Residue On Your Dishes!

Hands up who has dishwasher white residue on their glasses and dishes. There’s nothing more off-putting than drinking out of a glass with a white film on it, especially when you’re in someone else’s home!

What causes dishwasher white residue.

Hard water deposits on dishes are caused by mineral deposits in your dishwasher.

How to get rid of mineral build up in the dishwasher.

When cleaning your dishwasher it is far cheaper to remove the mineral deposits yourself, than to buy a commercial dishwasher cleaner.

  1. Clean your dishwasher

Make sure your dishwasher is free from any bits of stale food and grease.

  2. Clean the filter

Clean the filter with vinegar and remove any greasy residue.

  3. Add the vinegar

Put approximately two cups of vinegar into a container in the dishwasher

  4. Run the cycle

Run the cycle on the hottest temperature setting.

  5. Repeat if necessary.

If your dishwasher is particularly grotty you may want to repeat the process until it is clean.

Your dishwasher should now be nice and sparkly clean!

How to prevent dishwasher white residue from coming back.

Ok, now you’ve cleared the mineral build problem in your dishwasher, you need to stop it from coming back. So, this simple tip will keep your dishes sparkly clean after each wash.

I use finish jet dry rinse agent and add it to the dishwasher’s dispenser for automatic rinse agents, you can usually find this right next to the bit where you add the dishwasher soap.

If you’re looking for a quick fix to remove hard water spots from dishes you can also try using grade #0000 steel wool to buff them out. I use this to clean almost everything in my house!

Your dishwasher will hold up better and keep fresher for longer if you use a better quality dishwasher detergent. If you live in a hard water area you can get a hard water booster to add to your dishwasher.

To make sure you don’t get a film in your dishwasher in the future, you should run a hot cycle with vinegar every month to keeping it working like new!
